A classic detective thriller, Quai des Orfevres centres on the efforts of Inspector Antoine (Jouvet) and his investigation into the murder of an elderly businessman. Winner of Best Director at the **Venice Film Festival**. *"Clouzot is able to reveal a complex and interactive working-class world in which cops and criminals are sometimes difficult to tell apart." Jonathan Rosenbaum, **The Chicago Reader***
Summary
An amazingly original hybrid of film noir, supernatural fantasy, and backstage melodrama, the film stars Joan Leslie as a Broadway actress who magically relives the previous year of her life, but can she alter the fateful mistakes and misjudgments that led to a New Year's Eve tragedy? In the years after its 1947 release, REPEAT PERFORMANCE seemingly vanished. For many who'd seen it, the film's startling premise and stunning set-pieces became merely a tantalizing memory. It fell so far off the cultural radar people began to think they'd only imagined the movie. But thanks to the dedication and diligence of the Film Noir Foundation, REPEAT PERFORMANCE was restored in collaboration with UCLA Film & Television Archive and the Packard Humanities Institute.

Summary
The first German feature film to explicitly address the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany, Marriage in the shadows called on Germans to accept collective responsibility for the crimes of the Third Reich. Stylistically, the production, in which many former Ufa artists were involved, blends classic melodrama in the Ufa style with documentary glimpses into life in Berlin under the Nazis. Shown in all four sectors of occupied Berlin and across Germany, the initial release of the film reached 10 million viewers. It premiered in the US at New York's Little Met Theater on September 16, 1948.
