Summary
Jamie (Shimon Moore) is a typical teenager living the good life: a popular lad, he has a part-time job, is on the footy team and is the lead guitarist in a rock band. But all this is threatened when his mum (Celine O'Leary) announces that she has a new job as head scientist at a marine research base. Forced to uproot and move to a remote island, Jamie soon discovers that all is not as it seems. He begins to notice changes to his body - scales and webbed fingers - things beyond the explanation of teenage puberty.  Changes which suggest that he is somehow connected to a legendary line of Selkies - a magical people from ancient Scotland who have the power to change into seals.

This mockumentary unravels the tale of how Ronin Suiri Tantai made it to Australian screens back in the late 90's, retitled as TOP KNOT DETECTIVE, and what really happened behind the scenes of this outrageous show. The original Japanese series was legendary in its home country as being a cultural train-wreck, led by its insane writer/director/star, Takashi Takamoto. The rivalry between Takashi and co-star, Haruto Koike, is just the tip of this conspiratorial iceberg, leading back to Japanese conglomerate Sutaffu, and its CEO, Moritaro. TOP KNOT DETECTIVE introduces us to the sensation of today's cult fan world at Oz Comicon, then takes us right back to the origins of Takashi Takamoto, his hunger for fame, desire to be admired, and the blurry lines between truth and fiction. Official Selection at **Austin Fantastic Fest**. *"It's a fun, endearing look at a fictional creation, and it's enough to make you a fan of the show that never was." - Rob Hunter, **Film School Rejects***
