Summary
Summary
Jess Jordan is barely 15. Fred is her often-aggravating best guy friend; her father is a lonely bachel∨ Flora is her gorgeous best friend, a constant liability; and Ben Jones is barely a twinkle in her eye. Into this innocent scene are dropped 30 or so helpless French exchange students. Jess and her mother are assigned to house Eduoard, a shy, awkward, and painfully English-deprived boy Jess's age. To counter what Jess fears is Eduoard's growing crush on her, Jess convinces her friend Fred to pose as her boyfriend, but he refuses to take their fake relationship seriously. Add a gorgeous, womanizing French student, an ill-fated camping trip in a student's backyard, and Flora just being, well, Flora, and you have all the makings of an international incident. Will Jess be able to keep the peace, or even translate the whole debacle to the confused French students? The future of England is on the line. . . . From the Hardcover edition.

Publisher's Weekly Review
Girl, Barely 15: Flirting for England by Sue Limb, the fourth book starring Jess Jordan, is a prequel that backtracks to the heroine's life before the events of Girl, 15, Charming but Insane. In this installment, the arrival of a French exchange student throws Jess's life into disarray. (Delacorte, $15.99 256p ages 10-up ISBN 9780-385-73538-4; Jan.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. Horn Book Review
Jess and her classmates are hosting French students in their homes for two weeks. However, Jess's exchange partner, Edouard, isn't exactly what she was expecting. The book is filled with many laugh-out-loud scenes, including a zany camping trip and several instances of cultural miscommunication between Jess and Edouard. Readers won't be disappointed by this entry in the breezy British series. (c) Copyright 2010. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted. Booklist Review
In this fourth Jess Jordan novel, Jess and her classmates welcome 30 French exchange students. Jess is thrilled when her family is assigned to host Edouard, who has sent a gorgeous picture. But Edouard turns out to be painfully shy and immature, and he develops a terrible crush on Jess. Jess' strategy? She pretends that she loves her friend Fred. Limb takes Jess and friends through a roller-coaster ride of British teenage slapstick involving flirtatious French teens, a storm-tossed camping trip, and a grandmother convinced she talks with the dead. A sure hit with teens who enjoy Louise Rennison's books.--Bradburn, Frances Copyright 2008 Booklist
School Library Journal Review
Gr 7-10-Laugh-out-loud funny, this prequel to the now four-part series about Jess Jordan is sure to be a winner with fans of British chick-lit. After receiving his picture in the mail, Jess falls in love with her French exchange student. Then she meets him face-to-face and discovers that he's as small as an elf, speaks almost no English, and has a fascination for spiders and snakes. Worse, he has a crush on her. Efforts to discourage him, involving Jess pretending to have a relationship with her best friend, adorable if nerdy Fred, change when she develops a crush on another French exchange student, Gerard. When this ladies' man comes on to Jess and then to her friend Flora on a camping trip with some classmates and their exchange partners, Jess isn't the only one who is jealous of Gerard and Flora, and watching everyone's reactions is hilarious. The fast pace will keep readers turning the pages. A few of the scenes don't further the story, but even those are so full of sparkling wit and slapstick humor that it doesn't matter. The tale stops rather than ends, leaving readers waiting for the next installment to see if Jess catches a glimpse of gorgeous classmate Ben's appendicitis scar.-Catherine Ensley, Latah County Free Library District, Moscow, ID (c) Copyright 2010. Kirkus Review
Jess Jordan is starting to regret volunteering to host a male French exchange student, at least until his letter and photo arrive in the mail. But, when Edouard arrives, he is anything but the dreamy boy Jess was hoping for. In this prequel to Limb's other novels featuring Jess, an always funny and often overly dramatic English girl, she is once again caught up in trouble that is largely her own making. On an ill-fated camping trip designed to bring everyone closer together, Jess finds herself as the third corner of a love triangle featuring another exchange student and her best friend Flora. Unfortunately, the incredibly gorgeous and womanizing boy at the center of the controversy has other admirers. Good thing Jess's long-time friend, Fred, is along. If only Jess can manage to keep the peace and her own sanity. This latest installment in the Jess Jordan saga is perfectly fun and, of course, zany.
