A good ND, not quite as elegantly balanced as some of the previous volumes. There are a lot of skewed time sequences and/or inverted causalities here, adding up to heavy emphasis on Questions of Being And Perception. The best entries are Phyllis and Alex Eisenstein's desolate, brilliantly imagined story of a child stranded on a space ship and John Shirley's highly original as-the-bomb-fails flashback. From Felix C. Gotschalk, a wry tale of escape from a geriatric paradise; from Steven Utley and Howard Waldrop, an overlong, intermittently moving, new chapter in the life of Frankenstein's monster. Marta Randall does witty things with the classic crew-marooned-on-alien-planet situation; Barry Malzberg, Gordon Eklund, Fritz Leiber, and the fey J. A. Lawrence are in good form.
