School Library Journal Review
PreS-K-A follow-up to I Love My Mommy (Hyperion, 2011), this simple picture book pays tribute to the special connection between fathers and daughters. A small girl gives a rhyming account of her favorite things about her daddy. "He teaches lots of things to me,/I think he's clever. So does he!" Vivid spreads feature cartoon illustrations with bold outlines and appealing textures. Whether out on the town or cuddling on the couch, Dad, Daughter, and an ever-present stuffed rabbit radiate a comfortable warmth that will resonate with young listeners.-Julie Roach, Cambridge Public Library, MA (c) Copyright 2012. Horn Book Review
I love my daddy, yes I do, / Hes very kind--and funny too," begins a toddler's book-length tribute. The soothing text occasionally contorts conspicuously to make a rhyme work ("He teaches lots of things to me"; "He lifts me on his shoulders high"), but the illustrations--bold, boisterous, mellifluous--never miss a beat. Kirkus Review
Andreae and Dodd team up again (I Love My Mommy, 2011) to create a sweet look at all the fun a round-faced toddler and daddy experience together. A pleasingly rhythmic text paired with oversized illustrations in black-outlined saturated brights ensures instant appeal for the youngest readers. Child and dad make pancakes, "play horsies," sing songs, dance, go on the swings, watch television, share pizza and cuddle at bedtime. Stars in muted colors pepper the backgrounds on most of the pages, becoming vibrant on the final page as a bedcover pattern. The smiling narrator declares, "My daddy's such a lovely man, / In fact, I am his BIGGEST fan!" The delight is in the details: Toddlers and preschoolers will enjoy looking for the slightly gray bunny on most pages, while parents will nod at the occasional mess of batter splattered on the kitchen counter and cookie crumbs scattered over the sofa. While odes on the wonderfulness of dads are plentiful, this stands out for its spot-on execution and colorful charm. (Picture book. 1-4)]] Copyright Kirkus Reviews, used with permission.
Booklist Review
The big brown boots and little red boots shown on the title page prime listeners' funny bones for the scenario on the next page, in which Daddy loses a boot in the mud, while the text reads, I love my daddy, yes I do, / He's very kind and funny too. The bond between parent and child builds as clever, talented Daddy cooks and sings, and his devotion to his child is clear as he plays horsey on all fours, gives piggyback rides, and goofs on the swing. The duo enjoy quiet times, too, snacking as they watch TV, cuddling, and enjoying bedtime stories. My daddy's such a lovely man, / In fact, I am his BIGGEST fan. This tale of mutual admiration offers nothing new, but Andreae does break daddy stereotypes, and the singsong rhythm and bold, colorful, expressive illustrations will have kid appeal. At the same time, the vocabulary and positive attributes (kind, clever, polite) will have adult appeal.--Austin, Patricia Copyright 2010 Booklist
