Kirkus Review
The little boy who managed proudly in the last year's Alfie Gets In First gets some shiny new yellow boots in this episode. ""He put them on all by himself and walked around in them, stamp! stamp! stamp!"" Pleased as he is, the boots ""feel funny""--but it's only after a good deal of stamping around and some splish splash SPLOSH-ing in the park that Alfie realizes what's wrong: He's put the boots on the wrong feet. He and Dad immediately switch the boots; back at home Mom marks them R and L; and then, even after the marks wear off, Alfie ""usually"" gets them on right. This is all nicely fleshed out with bits about little sister Annie Rose and her shoes and boots and, at the opening, bare feet for Alfie to teach her the ""This little pig. . ."" game. Not quite the triumph Alfie achieved in his debut, it's another of Hughes' close reflections of a small child's everyday pleasures and perceptions. Copyright ©Kirkus Reviews, used with permission.
