Author Notes

Robyn Carr is a best-selling author of romance novels. She studied nursing in college, but because she married her high school sweetheart who then joined the US Navy, Carr never had time to stay in one place and practice nursing. Instead, she became a reader of romance novels and then decided to write her own. Since that time she has written many historical and contemporary-based romance novels.

Robyn's titles include the Virgin River, Thunder Point, and Grace Valley series as well as a number of stand-alone novels. Robyn's titles, A New Hope and Wildest Dreams, made the New York Times bestseller list in 2015. Another soft-centered period romance (here 12th-century England) with Carr's bouncy narrative featuring secrets, villainy, a fiesty heroine, and a cheerful obliviousness to period authenticity. Here the arranged marriage of a gloomy noble and a young spunky girl warms from icy misery to a pleasing simmer through a crosshatch of obstacles. Felise is the beautiful illegitimate daughter of a father forever unnamed by her mysteriously disappeared mother, once Eleanor of Aquitaine's favorite singer and poetess. Felise had been adopted by dear, good Lord Scelfton, who'd like her to marry the stepson of an old friend, Sir Boltof. Another noble, Wharton, is intrigued by Felise's beauty and her dowry (lands in Aquitaine). However, King Henry II commands that she marry Sir Royce of the infamous (happily deceased one and all) Leighton family, whose horrid reputation for doubtful deeds, and the shambles of Segeland Castle survive them. Off goes glum Royce, with an even grimmer Felise in tow, to Segeland and its village of starving and cowed peasants. But Felise is no limp oatcake. In no time she's leading a castle-scrubbing detail and fattening up and rallying the villagers. While Royce and Felise draw closer, Wharton and Boltof are planning nastiness.
